Do we have a new chance to stop the over development of our land?
The Times Herald Record reported today that Mountco has not been able to reach agreements for sewer services for their proposed development at the Camp LaGuardia site. They have been unsuccessfully negotiating with the Town of Chester and the Village of South Blooming Grove for the services, and are nearing the end of a second deadline extension. The county has given Mountco until December 31 to make a decision on whether or not to go through with their purchase.
Mountco's misfortunes in their attempts to get their deal done could present an opportunity for concerned county citizens. Should the deal fail, we would have a new chance to pressure governmental agencies into putting Camp LaGuardia site to use in a way that benefits the community rather than causing unnecessary sprawl, unmanageable traffic, and adverse impact to the ecosystem. There are many possible beneficial uses for the site; a performing arts center, passive parkland, or a community farm to name a few.
